Such an unusual item--we just love this piece. Ruler of the Skies, Mightly son of Isis, the Eyeless One, Defeater of Seth. Horus was created by Isis to set re-balance the forces in the Universe after her husband, Osiris (life, order), was slain by his brother Seth (death, decay). Isis prevented Horus from slaying Seth in revenge of Osiris, so that both good and evil, darkness and light, creation and decay, could continue to co-exist in the Universe. Horus is invoked in a number of mummification spells as protection against the decay of the mummified body (and, hence, the rebirthed body). There are alternate versions of Horus, reflecting the various positions of the sun in the daytime sky.
